Heartburn Diet

Heartburn is also known as pyrosis or acid indigestion. This kind of a disorder is a burning sensation which arises in the stomach and stretches up to chest, neck, throat and jaw area. More than 70 million people in America are affected with heartburn. Heartburn diet needs to be checked and followed regularly to avoid such sufferings. The burning sensation is a very painful experience. Heartburn is an after effect of what we eat. Hence the diet needs to be checked. You need to follow cleverly what leads to the burning sensation.

Heartburn diet will tell you to avoid the following things:

  • Fried and fatty food
  • Red meat
  • Citrus fruits
  • Beverages containing carbon-di-oxide
  • Alcohol
  • Cigarettes

Few symptoms of heartburn are: chest pain, coughing, fussiness, poor eating, sore throat, vomiting. Heartburn diet also includes taking five to six smaller meals rather than three major meals. Among fruits you can have apples and banana. In vegetables, you can have potatoes which are grilled or baked, intake of broccoli is not harmful, cabbages are good too, carrot juice, green beans baked or grilled, peas are also good for you. Salads should be dressing free. Cookies and desserts should be fat free too. As a part of heartburn diet, meat that you can intake should be:

  • Extra lean beef
  • Steak in London Broil
  • Chicken breast which is skinless
  • Fish but with no added fat

Food that causes acid reflux should be avoided strictly. Obesity is also a major reason for heartburn. Hence, shift to healthy food, take control of your weight, and avoid large meals. Acidic foods such as tomatoes, tomato-based sauces, citrus fruits, rhubarb, gooseberries, unripe fruits and acidic pickles should be avoided as a part of heartburn diet. Intake of more fibre in the food will help you get lesser heartburn attacks.

Make sure that the food you intake should be digested well. So sit in an upright position for at least 45 minutes after meals. As a part of a regular diet you can have rice, bread and pastas. They are easy for the stomach to digest.
